Title

Variable Thrust & Thrust Vector Controlled Liquid Rocket

Abstract

This project develops an experimental liquid bi-propellant rocket capable of variable thrust between 400 and 2500 Newtons and thrust vector control (TVC), capabilities largely unexplored in amateur rocketry. Using isopropyl alcohol and nitrous oxide, the system employs proportional valve modulation paired with a dual-axis gimbal to enable precise attitude control, hovering, and soft landing. Key components including the injector plate and nozzle are manufactured using Laser Powder Bed Fusion 3D printing for thermal resilience under dynamic combustion. Early phases validate variable thrust and TVC responsiveness, with later phases targeting hover tests and landing demonstrations. The long-term goal is to become the first student team to land a liquid bi-propellant rocket.
