Welcome to the UCSB Undergraduate Research Mentor Community of Practice
Mission and Purpose
The UCSB Undergraduate Research Mentor Community of Practice is dedicated to fostering a campus culture that treats undergraduate research as a high-impact practice that requires research-based, equitable approaches.
By sharing resources and fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration, the CoP equips faculty and academic personnel to navigate the complexities of mentoring undergraduates at UCSB.
Core Goals
Central Hub
Provide a central connection point for UCSB mentors (faculty, postdocs, and academic staff) to learn from and with each other.
Best Practice Sharing
Facilitate the discovery and sharing of evidence-based mentoring strategies, templates, and approaches.
CURE Support
Support Course-based Undergraduate Research Experiences (CUREs) and their unique pedagogical advantages while addressing their unique challenges.
Community Feedback
Gather data to guide campus engagement in undergraduate research.
Inclusive Community
The UGRM CoP is an inclusive environment that welcomes the active participation of all interested members of the UCSB community who mentor undergraduate researchers or are curious about doing so in the future.
Join our newly created Google Group to join the Undergraduate Research Mentor CoP. When you you join the group, you will be added to our Google Workspace chat, a space to communicate with colleagues.
Communication and Special Interest Subgroups (SIGs)
The collective is further divided into special interest subgroups according to member affiliation and backgrounds. SIGs provide opportunities for campus members with similar research environments to explore specific challenges in smaller settings. Each SIG has its own Google Workspace chat.
