Title
Staying Motivated while managing Family and Cultural pressures: First Gen BIPOC students at UCSB
Abstract
This project seeks to explore what it means to be a first-generation BIPOC student and how this identity impacts motivation in college. Specifically, we aim to understand how these students stay motivated while still navigating family problems, cultural expectations, and limited familial understanding of college life. Loads of current research talks about issues like resilience, community support, and cultural identity, but there is only very little work that focuses specifically on first-generation BIPOC students at UCSB. So by building on what other studies have found, our project adds new insight into what these students experience and even shows how the university can better support them.
