Title

Science Identity and Role Models:A Pre-Post Quantitative Evaluation of SciTrek Volunteers Experience

Abstract

The purpose of this project is to analyze an existing dataset that looks at how the science outreach program SciTrek positively impacts its undergraduate volunteers. Informed by social identity theory and quantitative insights from this dataset, I hope to understand how perceptions of who can do science and STEM role models differ between male and female volunteers and how SciTrek participation impacts those views. Previous qualitative data suggests that the undergraduate mentors are positively impacted by their mentoring experiences. Such data has the potential to provide evidence-based practices that can increase retention of female undergraduates in STEM fields.
