Title

The Nostos Project: Building Open-source Toolkits for Climate Change and Migration Studies

Abstract

Climate change is becoming an increasingly relevant push factor in global migration studies. As such, the interdisciplinary field of climate migration has become an important nexus for scholars, activists, and policymakers to interrogate and address issues of migration related to climate disasters, climate-impact. In conducting research with climate change and migration data, aggregating, preprocessing, and merging datasets can often be a laborious process. We are developing a Python library to accelerate this process by providing researchers with readily-available tools to streamline routine tasks and preliminary steps in climate data analyses. By having access to a faster data collection and processing pipeline, researchers can approach their work with a standardized framework and effectively integrate diverse datasets.
