Title
Materials Testing and Design for Formula SAE Car: Steering Wheel and Quick Release
Abstract
This project will optimize the ergonomic design and structural stability of the Gaucho Racing steering wheel, baseplate, and quick-release. The steering structure will be developed through parametric modeling and Finite-element analysis. Parametric modeling is a three-dimensional modeling software that uses parameters to define models. Finite-element analysis, or FEA, is a type of structural analysis where an analysis software calculates the effects of various loads on a model. Through a rigorous process of manufacturing and surveying, this research will aim to find the best organization of materials to integrate into the steering structure. The improvement of the steering structure is imperative as it allows the driver to comfortably rely on the steering wheel while competing at Formula SAE’s annual race.
