Mach 1 Solid Rocket building to Spaceshot

This project constructs a lightweight solid rocket capable of reaching Mach 1 using a high-performance COTS motor, the Aerotech 54/1706, tackling aerodynamic and structural challenges that prevent amateur rockets from sustaining transonic flight. The design integrates advanced aerodynamic shaping, structural reinforcement, and thermal protection to withstand shock waves and boundary layer separation. Subsystems including dual-stage recovery and high-frequency telemetry maximize safety and data collection. Success will give students hands-on exposure to high-speed flight dynamics and inform future Mach 5+ designs.
