How do underrepresented public high schools in California encourage higher education for Central Am

Abstract

Studies regarding Central American students in California and the United States overall are limited, especially concerning higher education and the first-generation experience. This lack of research furthers underrepresentation in schools, making it difficult to support this community in pursuing higher education and continuing to grow in California. This project aims to examine how California public schools in underrepresented communities encourage higher education for Central American first-generation students. My goal is to find what methods impact their perspective on earning a bachelor’s degree and how representation factors into pursuing higher education by conducting interviews with high school graduates and college students.
