Title
Celestial Bodies
Abstract
My project is a zine of 3-4 short stories written in a braided form. Each story braids the immediate plot of two people occupying intimate space together with a celestial body metaphor (God, an earthquake, the moon). There is a grounded focus on the physical body in space (and in a state of desire/intimacy/love) to explore disembodiment and negative space through its counterpart celestial metaphor. By drawing on feminist and queer theory to pose gender-power dynamics as linguistic opposites (or, as Loretta Glennon writes about as "Dualisms"), the stories deconstruct gendered power dynamics in intimacy through whispered dialogue, negative/occupied space, performance/authenticity, and more. The two interwoven and opposing ideas braided together reckon with the binary by messing with boundaries between two opposing theories. This project investigates intimacy through a theory-informed, original framework.
