Abstract

In this research study, I will be exploring how K-12 history education in the US has influenced UCSB students’ understanding of politics. My goal is to explore how the colonial and US/Western-centric framework of history education in the US has affected the way young people view politics, ideologies, and the West’s place in the world. Following my research and data collection process, I will synthesize the information I gathered, exploring how participants’ answers speak to the information I gathered from existing literature. The goal of this project is ultimately to understand the impact that education has on our political views and climate.
