Title
Effects of Cortisol and Circadian Rhythm on Memory Consolidation
Abstract
This study investigates how cortisol mediates the relationship between circadian rhythm and memory consolidation. Cortisol, which peaks shortly after waking, is known to enhance memory consolidation through long-term potentiation. Thirty participants will complete a virtual maze task during either a morning or afternoon session and provide salivary cortisol samples for ELISA assays. Memory will be assessed through surveys immediately and 24 hours post-session. A t-test and multiple regression will evaluate time-slot differences and whether cortisol mediates this effect. Findings will demonstrate how the circadian rhythm modulates memory formation, with crucial implications for optimizing learning and cognitive performance.
